Okay, Let's Reconnect

Hi to Everyone.I thought I was going to have to shut down this Ning when it went to a paid service. I applied for and was accepted to run this Ning as a mini site for free. So let's see what we can do to help each other learn. I am encouraging the members to post one Web 2.0 tool or one best practice that you use in your classroom. …See More

Jing Project

Today at the math facilitator's technology workshop, we learned about a really neat program that I have never heard of previously. It is not ning, but jing. Jing can be downloaded via www.jingproject.com. Once you have the program downloaded, you can record and capture video/images from your computer desktop screen as you carry out tasks in addition to adding a step by step description of what is going on through voice recordings. Your… Continue

My First VoiceThread Attempt

Today was the first time I attempted to make a VoiceThread. My English students have written poems based on Margaret Wise Brown's book The Important Book. I wanted to try using a new technology to publish their work. We are not finished recording but let me know what you think about this project so far. Please feel free to add… Continue

Planning for After LEAP

We have spent eight months preparing our students to do the best they can on the LEAP test. After the intensive review I'm planning between now and April 1, I'm also starting to think of things I want to teach my students when LEAP is over. I'm looking for some interesting projects which involve using Web 2.0 tools. I feel like I hit the mother lode when I found this post in my Google Reader from Kevin Jarrett's Welcome to NCS-Tech! blog and wanted to share it with you.

...97, 98, 99, 100

On February 2, 2009, Ella C. Pittman held the annual 100th Day of School Celebration. As students entered their appropriate hallways, teachers counted them one by one in search of the 100th person. Two winners were declared. Lexus, a fifth grader, from the fourth and fifth grade hall and Patrick, a second grader, from the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade hall were both awarded with a $20 gift certificate to Wal-Mart. What an easy way to earn $20! Neither student had a clue what they did until being told… Continue

Voki Avatar Characters for Podcasting

Here is a sample of what you can do at www.voki.com. I just discovered the site tonight so I have not yet used it with my kids. Students will be more excited to create this than a regular podcast of only their voices.
